Civic Engagement

“Helping Others Today Helps You Tomorrow” is the central theme and vision of the OSL Civic Engagement Program. The Civic Engagement Program is concerned with connecting students to the community while providing educational and life experiences. We keep a current list of community programs and projects that need student help as well as a network of students interested in community involvement. Please stop by the Office of Student Life Room 184 in the blue wing of the Library or contact jgreenwood@ucmerced.edu for more information.

Civic Engagement and Community service is the link between your college education and your future!
Here are five thought-provoking reasons why YOU should get involved:
1. Career Exploration: Volunteer experience will help you build an impressive resume.
2. Better Health: Research has shown that people who volunteer tend to live longer, healthier and happier lives!
3. Social Responsibility: Volunteering can provide you with a sense of fulfillment and pride of citizenship while you’re making a difference.
4. Improved Self-Worth: When people channel their idealism and energy into helping others and solving community problems, they build new respect for themselves and strong attachments to others.
5. New Relationships: You may create substantial connections with new friends while doing something meaningful for your community.
